Auxbus
Podcasting made simple (Acquired by Libsyn in 2021)
Head of User Experience Design & Product Design
Background:
Auxbus was a SaaS startup dedicated to improving the novice podcaster experience. I started working with Auxbus in the pre-launch phase and helped redesign the user experience quickly after the founder realized the project lacked a design strategy. As a designer, I worked closely with the engineering team and eventually took on the product management role.

Here are some highlights of the project:
-
Conducted user research with experienced and aspiring podcasters to understand best practices and gaps in usability
-
Innovated a way to streamline new episode creation with reusable master descriptions, artwork, intros, outros, and calls-to-action
-
Partnered with audio engineers to perfect seamless audio clean-up and calibrate for recording using any microphone: pro, Bluetooth, wired, or built-in
-
Researched and sourced a music library and commissioned demo recordings
-
Following a successful launch, we gained 1000 users within 30 days
-
Ran efforts to build a new feature (Auxbus Connect) for recording remote interviews without latency issues
-
Auxbus was used to produce tens of thousands of automated podcast episodes with a 4.95 out of 5 Customer Satisfaction score
-
Voted a top 10 startup to watch in North Carolina in 2019 by NC Tech Association
-
Awarded a grant for a patent application to patent the unique user experience guiding customers through the process of podcast recording

Design Process
-
User research interviews with experienced and aspiring podcasters
-
Workflows to flesh out concepts before development
-
Wireframing and high-fidelity prototyping for testing and as a guide for engineering teams
-
Quick iterations based on user feedback

Prototypes
Frequent exchanges between design and engineering included keeping prototypes up-to-date and ready for testing new ideas.
Auxbus Connect
We launched the Auxbus Connect Kickstarter to help push development efforts, improve the experience, and prepare the start-up for acquisition.

From the Kickstarter page:
Unlike the current methods of recording interviews used by most podcasters that are subject to bad sound quality, dropouts, and having to download and upload files with multiple different apps and software, Auxbus Connect:
-
records each person locally, so there's no loss of quality over the internet
-
automatically combines them, so you don't need to do
-
works inside Auxbus, so you won't have to switch apps or software

We want your interviews to sound professional and crisp! Just like a french fry in a bow tie.
